Your first appointment |
|
At Dove Dental Centre, your first appointment will be a complete examination. Since
the most important service we can provide is diagnosis, we take pride in performing
a detailed and thorough exam of not only your teeth but the gums, jaw joints, surrounding
soft tissues and an oral cancer screening. A necessary set of digital radiographs often
include a Panoramic view that shows all your teeth and jaws and smaller more detailed
Bite views used to help detect cavities and gum disease. Dental photographs help in diagnosis
but more importantly allows you to see for yourself what’s really going on in your
mouth. |

If the health of your mouth allows, a dental cleaning can often be performed at
the same visit if you request. You can expect your first visit to last between 1
and 2 hours. |
|
|
|
At your following appointment, a detailed treatment plan will be presented to you
by our doctor along with a portfolio of some of your photos and radiographs for
you to review at home. You will have a chance to discuss the proposed treatment,
any treatment options and have all your questions answered before any further treatment
is performed. |

Periodontal (Gum) Treatment |
|
Gum disease is by far the biggest cause for tooth loss in adults. Known as a silent
killer, gum disease is painless and often doesn’t present itself until it’s too late.
Our services range from the standard “6 month cleaning” to advanced periodontal
therapies including deep scaling, laser treatment and grafting procedures. Advanced
laser periodontal treatment is a wonderful addition to the world of preventative
dentistry. Through a virtually painless procedure, lasers can eliminate infection
and promote the healing of diseased gums. Lasers also allow for increased comfort
and faster healing than traditional periodontal surgery. Depending on the extent
of your periodontal disease, you may need one or more laser treatments. Your comprehensive
examination will allow us to accurately assess the state of your gums and suggest
a plan of treatment to return your gums and teeth to optimum health. |

Composite and Porcelain Fillings |
|
Teeth that are suffering from decay and need fillings can now be treated with metal-free
white fillings made of either a composite resin or porcelain. In the past, teeth
were usually filled with silver amalgam or other metals. White fillings eliminate
any possible risks that may be associated with older mercury-containing amalgam
fillings while offering a cosmetic benefit as well. Because they can be matched
to your natural tooth color, white fillings offer renewed health and strength without
telltale signs of treatment. Recent advances have made white fillings stronger,
longer-lasting and better than ever. When the filling to be placed is large and
covers most of the tooth, a Porcelain Filling or Onlay is the restoration of choice.
Porcelain Onlays offer increased strength, longevity and unmatched esthetics. |

Porcelain Crowns |
|
When teeth are damaged or decayed, they can cause pain and negatively affect the
esthetics of your smile. Using porcelain crowns, the evidence of having your teeth
restored is virtually undetectable. Your smile will be stronger and healthier while
still looking natural and beautiful. Porcelain crowns fit over your natural teeth
like jackets. They can make teeth stronger and less susceptible to fracture and
damage in the future. At the same time, porcelain crowns can be used to improve
the appearance of the teeth by reshaping them, changing their alignment, and making
them whiter.

Bridges |
|
A dental bridge is a false tooth used to fill the space left by a missing tooth
by literally bridging the gap between the existing teeth. The result is a completely
natural-looking and strong new tooth. A dental bridge can be used to correct speaking
and chewing problems, and increase bite strength. There are several options when
choosing a dental bridge.

Implants |
|
If you tend to hide your smile because of missing teeth, dental implants can help.
Teeth lost due to injury, disease, or infection can make speaking and eating difficult.
You may feel self-conscious and uncomfortable with your appearance. Dental implants
are the most durable way of replacing missing teeth. An implant, essentially an
artificial tooth root to which a new crown can be attached, can successfully replace
a single tooth or all of your natural teeth. Whether an injury, periodontal disease,
or another cause has left you with missing teeth, we can help! The dental implant
procedure involves three phases. During the first phase, we place the implant, usually
made of titanium, into your jawbone. It then requires a period of healing, known
as osseointegration, which takes place over several months. Finally, we attach a
new crown to the implant, giving you a strong, natural-looking new tooth. |

Veneers |
|
Changing the appearance of your smile is easier than ever with porcelain veneers.
Veneers are thin layers of tooth-colored material that can be bonded to your teeth
to change their shape, size, alignment, or color. Porcelain veneers can repair chips
and cracks, hide discoloration, and straighten crooked teeth. If your smile is in
need of a new look, porcelain veneers may be the answer. They look completely natural
and very little tooth structure needs to be removed in order for them to be placed.
Porcelain veneers are placed over the front of teeth that appear too small, large,
or simply have an uneven surface. Everyone has imperfect teeth, and many have chipped,
crooked, oddly shaped, and discolored teeth. For most of these people, porcelain
veneers are an excellent solution. Porcelain veneers are a great alternative to
crowns, and they require that a lesser amount of tooth be removed because a veneer
only covers the front of the tooth. Porcelain veneers are also very durable, lasting
approximately 10 to 15 years. |

Whitening |
|
There are many reasons why our teeth become discolored. Our teeth naturally lose
their whiteness as we age, but the regular consumption of certain substances, such
as coffee, soda, and tobacco, as well as trauma, excessive fluoride, and nerve degeneration
all lead to darker teeth. Having a white smile often means having more confidence
and feeling better about yourself. Tooth whitening is one of the most popular and
simplest procedures available in dentistry today. There are several options for
having your teeth whitened. |
|
|
|
A dentist must first examine your teeth to ensure you do not have any cavities or
health issues that may prevent the safe use of teeth whitening. If your teeth and
gums are healthy, an impression of your teeth will be used to create an individualized
custom fit tray. The whitening gel is placed in the trays and worn for a couple
hours every day or overnight for approximately 2 weeks to achieve the best result. |
|
|
|
You can also have your teeth whitened in our office in under an hour. Using a whitening
gel and a special light, in-office tooth whitening is the quickest, most effective
way to achieve a brighter smile. Whether you are looking for a change that is subtle
or dramatic, we can help you achieve a whiter, more beautiful smile. |

Root Canal Treatment |
|
When decay is so large and extends deep into the tooth, bacteria have invaded and
infected the inner nerve tissue of the tooth. This is often the case in most “toothaches”.
As a last resort to save the tooth, Root Canal therapy is required to remove the
infected tissue and return the tooth to health and function. Known as the most feared
procedure in dentistry, if not the world, it shouldn’t be. Root Canal Therapy is
almost always a completely painless procedure with the proper use of dental anesthetics. |

Extractions |
|
Though we make every effort possible to save almost every tooth, there are times
a tooth needs to be removed. While almost all extractions are performed in our offices
by Dr Mostafa, there are situations that may require you to be referred to an Oral
Surgeon either due to a preexisting medical condition or difficulty of the extraction.
In removing a tooth, your comfort is of the utmost importance. Advances in dental
anesthetics have made tooth removal virtually painless. In the event that a patient
is overly anxious, there are different sedation options available. (see sedation
options below) |

Wisdom Teeth |
|
A very common situation that arises is with teenagers and their wisdom teeth. A
Panoramic X-ray is taken to fully show their position so we may assess their chance
of erupting into proper position. Often times there is not enough room in the jaw
to accommodate all four wisdom teeth. Removal of the wisdom teeth prevent future
problems to surrounding teeth and structures, such as gum infections, cavities in
adjacent teeth and pressure effects on the jaw and teeth, often causing orthodontically
straightened teeth to crowd again. Often times a form of sedation is used during
the procedure to ensure the patient’s comfort. |

Sleep (Sedation) Dentistry |
|
Many people avoid getting the dental care they need because of overwhelming dental
anxiety or fear. Hectic schedules also prevent some people from attending to their
dental needs. We understand that many obstacles can delay or prevent you from receiving
the proper dental care required to maintain the optimal health and stunning beauty
of your smile. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry at our dental practice. |
|
|
|
Sedation dentistry provides you with a practical solution to the difficulties associated
with dental anxiety and having limited time outside of work and home. Sedation dentistry
allows you to feel relaxed and calm during a planned procedure. In fact, most of
our patients achieve a tranquil feeling that allows them to fall into a light sleep. |
|
|
|
Sedation dentistry isn’t only for those who are nervous about dental procedures.
Sedation dentistry helps patients who have difficulty controlling their gag reflex,
experience pain because of sensitive teeth, or do not respond well to numbing medications.
Sedation dentistry also allows you to undergo several dental procedures in just
one appointment. We offer two types of sedation dentistry at our dental office:
Oral and IV Sedation. |
|
|
|
Oral Sedation is suited to patients with mild to moderate anxiety. A small
pill is taken about an hour before your appointment to relax and calm you.
You will have to arrange for transportation to and from your appointment, as the
effects of the sedative will impair your ability to drive. |
|
|
|
IV Sedation is a much deeper level of sedation suited for moderately or severe
anxiety patients. During a procedure using IV sedation, a licensed dental anesthesiologist
inserts an IV that administers medication to make you feel peaceful and serene.
IV Sedation dentistry is very safe. Our dental anesthesiologist uses medical devices
to monitor your heart rate and other vital signs. We cover you with a blanket so
you stay warm and cozy. We use dental devices to hold your mouth open during procedures
so your mind is free to drift to anything it wants to. |

Children |
|
Children should begin learning about dental health and visiting a dentist between
the ages of 2 and 3. We understand the special needs of children, and we strive
to maintain oral health in a welcoming atmosphere. We provide all routine treatments
necessary to get your child on track towards a life of beautiful, healthy teeth. Our
staff enjoy working with children, and they know how to make a trip to the dentist
as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We look forward to providing excellent

Emergency Dentistry |
|
We’ve been told thousands of times by patients there is no pain like dental pain.
At Dove Dental Centres our first duty as dentists is to treat people in pain. If
you are experiencing a dental emergency, call our office and you will be seen and
treated that same day. Whether a filling, draining an abscess from an infected tooth
or if necessary removal of a tooth, we will ensure that you leave our office reassured
your discomfort and sleepless nights are over. Often times an antibiotic and a non-narcotic
pain medication is all that’s required to control the infection until definitive
treatment can be performed at a later date. If you are experiencing a dental emergency
outside of office hours, please call our office in order to contact the dentist
on call who can provide assistance. |
